Winner of the Medium Employer of the Year at the Australian Training Awards in 2018, North Construction & Building employs a full-time apprentice manager to provide a comprehensive learning environment for each apprentice, with regular reviews to monitor progress and provide support.
Managing Director, Matthew Cook, said North’s success in the VET sector is because of its people.
“We have an incredible team that are dedicated to training, culture and values,” he said
“The time we put into our staff development and training programs continues to differentiate us from others in the industry.’
The company’s apprentice program is structured to teach carpentry and leadership skills from the apprentices’ first day on site.
A large number of North’s employees who now hold senior site positions are graduates of the apprentice program and represent 116 years of collective knowledge and experience.
North also runs a structured 12-week cadetship program which targets first-year construction management students. The internship runs over the summer break and gives students the opportunity to experience all aspects involved in a medium-sized construction company, allowing them to affirm they have chosen the right degree and career path
Similar to the intent of the apprentice program, the cadetship program is a key driver in growing the pool of future North employees who know and understand what working with North means, and who share the same values and goals.
North Construction & Building was the 2018 NSW Training Awards Medium Employer of the Year, a 2018 Australian Training Awards Medium Employer of the Year finalst, and is a member of the Australian VET Alumni.
