Communications Officer: Beth Hodder

When Beth felt the need for a new challenge, the former hairdresser retrained to move into the corporate world.

She secured a business traineeship at Western Power and achieved her Certificate III in Business while working full-time.

Choosing to return to study has been the best professional decision Beth has made, and she has enjoyed the challenge of moving from a trade into the corporate space.

Beth dedicates time to activities that benefit organisational culture, including her involvement in Western Power’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Committee, coordinating charity events and re-designing team communication tools.

Since starting her traineeship, Beth has completed a Certificate IV in Business, and credits her traineeship with providing the key foundations to a new and exciting career.

“VET is an opportunity to gain industry experience, expand your skill set and increase your employability, all things a degree lacks. It’s an essential career move.” Beth said.

“VET is not a means to an end. The career opportunities are endless. VET is about building a solid foundation for your career without being restrictive to one topic.”

Beth was the 2018 Western Australia Training Awards Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year, a 2018 Australian Training Awards Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year finalist, and is a member of the Australian VET Alumni.
