The following year, she was keen to undertake a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing through Polytechnic West but was told it was not possible whilst at school. Her persistence paid off and she was able to commence studies and obtain a part-time traineeship at GEOvet Veterinary Hospital.
Dedicated to both her school and vocational studies while pursuing her traineeship, Emma completed her Certificate IV while still in Year 12. She is the first person in Australia to achieve this, and is now a qualified and registered veterinary nurse. She plans to complete further studies at university, with the goal of being a veterinarian.
Emma was named Polytechnic West’s Trainee of the Year in 2013, and was also awarded the Beazley Medal (VET). She enjoys horse riding and equestrian events, and has previously assisted with coaching younger riders.
Emma was recognised for her outstanding contribution to vocational education and training at the 2014 Australian Training Awards where she was Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year Award runner-up after being named winner of this category in her home state of Western Australia.
