Certificate III in Business Administration

Business Administration: Heikma Siraj

“I want to always learn and continue to improve.”

Having already gained a Diploma of Information Technology and Photo Editing from Ethiopia, in 2011, Heikma Siraj came to Australia on a student visa to study a Diploma in Community Services.

Deferring her study in 2014 she began a traineeship with registered training organisation Brotherhood of St Laurence’s work and learning training services, BSL Training.

Despite facing language and cultural barriers Heikma was determined to continue her learning and was able to commence on and off the job training through the program, completing a Certificate III in Business Administration with her group training organisation and host employer, the Brotherhood of St Laurence.

“During my traineeship, I have gained skills and experience which built my confidence enough to find not just a job, but also my dream job,” Heikma said.

Heikma has this advice for people new to Australia.

“A traineeship is a great opportunity to achieve your dreams but also to make a positive impact on the community as a community leader.”

“You may face many barriers in your studies, but if you want to always learn and continue to improve you will succeed like I have.”

Heikma has a keen interest in working in community services and is particularly interested helping those in the Ethiopian community in Australia who are looking for work. Focused on developing her skills and inspiring others to improve their skills and ability to succeed, Heikma  has re-enrolled in her Diploma of Community Services and looks to complete her studies in 2016.

Heikma has excelled in her traineeship, always going above and beyond what is required, so much so that she was invited to participate in Group Training Australia’s Today’s Skills, Tomorrow’s Leaders 2015 national leadership program.
