Jarrod developed a passion for the electrical field after successful work placements in Year 11 while he was studying Applied Engineering at St Patrick’s Technical College.
Striving for excellence, by the time he completed Year 12 Jarrod had been School Captain and had received a number of awards, including Student of the Year for Applied Engineering and the Principal’s Award.
Jarrod undertook a Certificate III in Electrotechnology with 2018 Australian Training Awards Small Training Provider of the year PEER, and his host employer, BW Thompson Electrical.
He said he believes he chose a very smart pathway to his career, as VET has enabled him to gain practical experience at a proportional rate to theory based learning.
“It has set up my life and opened up so many avenues,” he said.
Jarrod’s next move is a two year trek through Europe, starting his journey in May 2019.
“The world is my oyster now. VET has equipped me with lifelong skills that will shape an amazing future for me.”
Jarrod now aims to learn as much as he possibly can about the electrical industry and hopes to one day become an electrical engineer. His Certificate III will contribute to recognised prior learning when he applies for a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering.
Jarrod was the 2018 South Australian Training Awards Apprentice of the Year, a 2018 Australian Training Awards Australian Apprentice of the Year finalist, and is a member of the Australian VET Alumni.
