Shane Dealy first experienced the construction industry through his father’s business, Algoa Holdings, and gained an early insight into the industry’s versatile mix of creative and practical thinking. He studied engineering at university but after 18 months was not convinced this was his career path. Transferring to a Certificate III in Carpentry at the Canberra Institute of Technology, he was immediately impressed by the student-first approach that the VET sector offers.
Since commencing his apprenticeship, Shane has been involved in a range of projects from new homes through to extensions and landscaping. He has a keen interest in camping and hiking and has travelled to various places on Australia’s East Coast, learning to appreciate what the environment has to offer and the importance of protecting it. Shane’s environmental awareness continues to influence his decisions, ensuring sustainable building practices are used at work and inspiring his participation as a volunteer in the Clean Coast Collective clean-up.
