With a childhood dream of working on a cattle station, Kate Cross finished Year 12 with aCertificate II in Agriculture, and a desire to complete further qualifications in the industry. While searching for the right course to pursue her goal, Kate discovered Longerenong Agricultural College in Wimmera, Victoria, a fully operational 1070 hectare training farm, and saw it as a great start for her career.

Kate’s training has given her a sound knowledge of cattle breeds, stock handling, nutrition and markets. Graduating with top marks, her skills took her to the Northern Territory where she is employed at AACo as a stock person. Kate has a goal to encourage other young people to take up a career in an industry they love and she hopes to one day open her own beef cattle stud and commercial herd.

Kate won the Vocational Student of the Year Award at the 2013 Australian Training Awards. The award recognises the most outstanding vocational education and training student in Australia.
