After working in the paper industry for 32 years, Chris Medcraft was made redundant. He decided to follow his passion for helping others and enrolled in a Certificate IV in Community Services. While studying, he secured weekend employment with Anglicare, working with children who had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders.

Upon completing his course, his hours at Anglicare increased and he started working with families where abuse was present. Since mid-2011, Christopher worked for Richmond Fellowship Tasmania, a leading provider of residential, recreational and community outreach services for people with mental health challenges. His employer encouraged him to return to study to gain qualifications and skills in the mental health sector.

Christopher has since completed a Certificate IV in Mental Health through TasTAFE, and is soon to commence a Diploma in Frontline Management.

Chris was a finalist in the 2014 Australian Training Awards 2014 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year category.
