The Large Training Provider of the Year Award recognises a registered training organisation that has demonstrated outstanding achievement in all aspects of the delivery of vocational education and training.
TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) is one of the largest registered training organisations in Australia catering to clients ranging from high-profile national organisations to small and micro local businesses. It is also an international vocational education and training provider delivering nationally recognised training in China and the Philippines.
In 2013, SWSi was named national Large Training Provider of the Year for its outstanding achievement in the delivery of vocational education and training.
"To be named the Large Training Provider of the Year is great recognition for the hard work of our staff and the partnerships we have with industry and community," SWSi Institute Director, Peter Roberts said.
"The Australian Training Awards acknowledge that vocational education and training is the backbone of Australia and that the sector is developing the talent pool for the country’s future."
In 2009, SWSi introduced a ‘Bright Ideas’ initiative to improve workforce capability in innovation. The success of this initiative led to the TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute Innovate model, which has begun many successful collaborations with industry partners.
SWSi is embedded in one of the most ethnically diverse and disadvantaged regions in Australia. Reflecting the region’s diversity, SWSi provides targeted, outcome based programs and support services for a range of groups including Indigenous people, refugees, students with disabilities, disengaged youth and the long-term unemployed. These targeted programs focus on improving retention, course completions and pathways to employment.
