Mikayla began working in the education sector without formal training, but she quickly realised she needed to build her skills. She decided to follow a vocational pathway in education support, which gave her a solid grounding in inclusive practice, literacy and speech support, and trauma-informed education.
Mikayla completed a Certificate III in School Based Education Support through TasTAFE while working at Youngtown Primary School. This qualification had a significant impact. Mikayla found her calling, a career that she was passionate about, and she now had a foundation from which she could grow professionally.
Since completing the qualification, Mikayla has enrolled in an Associate Degree in Education Support at the University of Tasmania, and she has also undertaken specialist training in speech and literacy intervention.
Mikayla now works as a teacher assistant and speech aide at Youngtown Primary School, helping young minds shine with one-on-one support.
