Workplace delivery of aged care using an action learning approach

Specialising exclusively in health, aged care and disability, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Education Centre (ANMEC) is a leading South Australian provider of vocational education and training.

As the education arm of the Nursing and Midwifery Federation (SA Branch), ANMEC is uniquely positioned to respond to the evolving needs of the health and care workforce.

In partnership with the Action Learning Institute, Kalyra and Skills SA, ANMEC is piloting an innovative workplace-based action learning model designed to strengthen workforce capability in the aged care sector.

The model integrates learning and assessment into everyday workplace activities, enabling existing workers to complete a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) while remaining in employment. Supported by workplace facilitators and technology-enabled assessment tools, learners can apply new skills immediately in their care settings.

By reducing barriers to training and improving learner engagement and completion outcomes, the initiative is helping address workforce shortages while enhancing the quality, capability and sustainability of aged care services across South Australia.
