2026
Finalist
Western Australia

Qualification: Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead
RTO: Electricity Networks Corporation - Power Training Services WA
Employer: Western Power

Determined to build a career in the electrical industry, Georgia Shinnick overcame an unsuccessful first application to begin her apprenticeship with Western Power in 2022. She completed a Certificate III in ESI - Distribution Overhead through Electricity Networks Corporation - Power Training Services WA and became the first qualified female line worker at Western Power's Picton and Collie Depot.

Working across planned maintenance and emergency response, Georgia helps keep power supplies safe and reliable for the communities and businesses that depend on them. Her apprenticeship included high-risk licences, strong TAFE and capstone results, and selection as a finalist for Western Power's Apprentice of the Year.

Respected by colleagues for her work ethic and professionalism, Georgia now mentors two female line worker apprentices. Drawing on her own experience of overcoming setbacks, she encourages other women to persevere, pursue non-traditional trades and back their ability to succeed.

Having forged her own path in the industry, Georgia is helping power new opportunities for the next generation of apprentices.
