Airservices Australia is a government-owned organisation responsible for the safety of 11 per cent of the world’s airspace. Providing air traffic control and aviation rescue firefighting services at Australia’s busiest airports, the organisation is investing in immersive learning technologies to position Australia at the forefront of innovation in the global aviation industry. As a registered training organisation, Airservices Australia delivers a selection of qualifications (ranging from Certificate II to Advanced Diploma) from the Aviation and Public Safety Training Packages.
The Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) is a critical component of Airservices Australia’s national operations. ARFFS personnel are trained to respond to aviation related emergencies such as aircraft fires, fuel spills and evacuations using specialised firefighting equipment and techniques. Wearing virtual reality (VR) headsets, new recruits and experienced firefighters undertake simulated exercises and scenario-based drills in an immersive learning environment to ensure their operational readiness for high-risk emergency situations.
