Dion is a proud descendant of the Gunggandji people. When he was offered a traineeship through the Gunggandji Ranger Program, which operates on his traditional country, he jumped at the chance. It was an opportunity to look after his country and give back to his community.

Dion completed a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management through TAFE Queensland while he was employed as a trainee with the Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Peoples Prescribed Body Corporate (GMYPPBC) Aboriginal Corporation.

Vocational education has been a critical part of Dion’s ranger journey. He has completed a wide array of nationally recognised and non-accredited training along the way, including three VET qualifications in conservation and land management. Dion’s commitment to learning is equipping him with the skills and capacity to manage his country.

Focused on becoming an environmental leader, Dion is mentoring younger members of his ranger team to strive and look to the future.
