A volunteering experience forever influenced Ffion’s decision to pursue a marine-based career. Ffion, a Year 12 student at Melville Senior High School, is the first school-based trainee to work on the Rottnest Express Ferry and in completing her Certificate II in Workplace Skills with Vocational Training Services she is on her way to a successful career in marine tourism and marine engineering.

When Ffion was in primary school, she volunteered at a Malaysian turtle sanctuary in the Perhentian Islands, and this experience has forever influenced her decision to pursue a marine-based career. Her VET Coordinator at Melville Senior High School encouraged her to undertake a school-based traineeship in workplace skills, and then consider moving into aquaculture and maritime qualifications.

Ffion is the youngest person to work on the passenger ferries. Her hands-on experience has boosted her confidence and fuelled her passion to pursue a career in marine tourism and marine engineering.
