Helaine Wilesmith completed a Certificate IV in Marine Habitat Conservation and Restoration as well as Conservation and Ecosystem Management through Envirotech Education while running PLS Group and building a new career in conservation.
A former finance executive and lifelong recreational fisher, she combines professional leadership with a deep commitment to protecting marine environments.
Through her training, Helaine gained the scientific knowledge and practical skills to turn her passion into action. Drawing on decades of involvement in the recreational fishing community, including as former Vice Commodore of Brisbane's largest offshore fishing club, she has helped connect fishers, conservation organisations and volunteers around a shared goal of restoring marine habitats.
Helaine mobilised a volunteer flotilla of fishing vessels to support oyster reef restoration in Moreton Bay and has contributed to ecological monitoring, coastal rehabilitation and on-Country learning.
Helaine’s journey demonstrates how vocational education can equip established professionals to change direction, unite communities and create lasting environmental impact.
