After completing a Bachelor of Commerce and becoming a mother to two girls, Leanne decided to re-direct her career. She was drawn to the electrical trades, because she felt her mathematical skills would come in handy, which they did! As an adult apprentice, Leanne is currently undertaking a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician at Canberra Institute of Technology and she is employed at Ultrasonic Electrical Services.

As part of her career change, Leanne wanted to demonstrate to her daughters that work doesn’t have to be a chore; that it is never too late to learn; and that careers don’t have gender boundaries.

“A trade apprenticeship has been a great solution, as it has allowed me to learn the right skills while earning an income to support my family,” Leanne says.

Outside of work, Leanne loves to spend time with her family, and she enjoys woodwork, travelling and community projects.
