Qualification: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

RTO: The Gordon Institute

Employer: The Gordon Institute

As a proud Wiradjuri woman, Shirley is guided by a deep commitment to mob and country. Her desire to strengthen cultural awareness and safety within the education system has been a long-standing goal, as this would ensure Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing are respected in every learning space.

When The Gordon Institute offered a First Nations pilot of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Shirley jumped at the opportunity. The pilot was designed to support the strengths, experiences, and ways of learning of First Nations students, and it empowered Shirley to become an educator. It gave her the tools and confidence to create accessible and inclusive learning environments.

Shirley now teaches the Diploma of Community Services to First Nations students at The Gordon Institute. Through her unwavering belief in education as a tool for self-determination and change, Shirley is shaping the next generation of support workers in Victoria.
