Northern Territory

Surf Life Saving Northern Territory is the peak agency for coastal safety in the Territory. It is a volunteer, not-for-profit community service organisation who works closely with Surf Life Saving South Australia (a registered training organisation) to provide nationally recognised training to its 600 active members.

Members follows a lifeguard induction pathway that comprises first aid, advanced resuscitation, pool lifeguard and aquatic rescue units and qualifications from three national Training Packages. The training is delivered onsite at lifeguard locations over a six to eight day period.

The lifeguard induction pathway was originally developed to address a shortage of qualified lifeguards in the Territory. Members are offered the pathway free of charge and are paid as trainee lifeguards during the training.

Surf Life Saving Northern Territory is funded by community donations, fundraising activities and corporate sponsorship, and its continued operation supports safer communities, physical activity, youth development and aquatic safety.
