Ying Soon completed a Diploma of Auslan at Melbourne Polytechnic and works with LIST Services. Already fluent in three spoken languages, she became curious about communication built not on sound, but on movement, expression and visual connection.
What began as curiosity soon developed into a meaningful communication with the Deaf community. Ying built her Auslan skills while volunteering at community events, completing work experience with Deaf Victoria and supporting Deaf and hard of hearing guests in her hospitality role. She also encouraged fellow students, helped organise an Auslan trivia night and found opportunities to bridge communication and strengthen inclusion.
Ying is passionate about promoting hearing awareness while recognising the importance of Deaf people leading conversations about their language and culture.
Now studying a Diploma of Interpreting, Ying is working towards becoming an Auslan interpreter and helping more people connect, communicate and be understood.
