With no previous experience in the dairy industry, Kerrilyn Bassett made a decision to leave her career in retail and join her family’s business as a farm hand. It was a decision that has led Kerrilyn to a rewarding career and the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and mentoring.

Kerrilyn undertook a Certificate III in Agriculture (Dairy Production) at Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE while training with Peppertree Dairy. She enjoyed the innovative farming tips, excursions to different farms and the learning provided in and out of the classroom. She believes the training has helped her gain the skills and confidence to deliver worthwhile improvements to the operations of the dairy.

Kerrilyn now mentors younger students studying the same qualification, and hopes to enhance her agricultural knowledge through more study and travel opportunities within Australia and overseas. In 2014 she was awarded the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE Certificate III Dairy Trainee of the Year and the National Centre for Dairy Education Australia’s Most Outstanding Student of the Year Award for Shepparton.
