Rachel Jackson, a young Indigenous woman, was placed under the Minister’s guardianship when she was 12 years of age. She lived in a number of foster homes before living independently at 16. Rachel was determined to show herself, and other Indigenous youth in particular, that success was possible.

Always interested in supporting children’s development, Rachel successfully gained a traineeship through Jobs for Youth where she works in Families SA and undertakes administrative work in child protection. In addition to acquiring a comprehensive range of administrative competencies, Rachel’s training is giving her skills that will help in her future career development.

Rachel values persistence and resilience. Through her traineeship she has gained confidence and knows she has the ability to have a successful career. Rachel wants to be a positive role model by encouraging others to believe in themselves and reach their potential
