On Wednesday 23 March, the Australian Training Awards together with VETnetwork Australia hosted webinars for two of the Australian Training Awards direct entry Award categories: the Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice Award and the School Pathways to VET Award.
The webinars provided valuable information about the Australian Training Awards to potential applicants. 2015 Australian Training Award winners, Lyn Wilson and Patrick O’Reilly shared their experiences in their respective categories as special guests in the webinars.
The Excellence in Language Literacy and Numeracy Practice Award webinar featured Lyn Wilson, the 2015 winner of this category. When giving insight to the second application criterion, Lyn said that applicants should “remember that it’s not just qualifications that are outcomes. In my particular area, it’s about jobs. I presented a lot of data on what the direct job outcomes were for particular students going through our program”.
Patrick O’Reilly, founding Principal of Southern Cross Catholic Vocational College, 2015 winner of the School Pathways to VET Award, recommended that “the people involved in writing the application are people who believe in what you’re doing, and bring energy to it.”
Patrick shared his experiences in the School Pathways to VET Award webinar, provided guidance on how to apply and offered many tips and tricks on the award process.
Any schools, registered training organisations, industry bodies and employers within the VET sector that are interested in applying for these Australian Training Awards direct entry categories and missed the webinars in March are encouraged to watch the recorded versions.
This is a great opportunity to gain valuable insight to the application and judging processes.
