The Mobile Skills Lab is a purpose built motorhome that has been fitted out with interactive learning resources to simulate an aged care work environment. It is a collaboration between four aged care providers and South West TAFE, and it is being used to deliver onsite training to staff at aged care facilities throughout regional Victoria.

A first-of-its-kind in Victoria, the Mobile Skills Lab is addressing the ongoing challenge of attracting and retaining qualified aged care staff in regional and rural areas. It allows remotely located learners to enter a Certificate III in Individual Support traineeship and be trained at their workplace.

Starting out with just seven trainees and four industry partners, the Mobile Skills Lab is now delivering training to 112 trainees at 33 aged care facilities across Victoria.

By taking individual support training on the road, the Mobile Skills Lab is addressing chronic workforce shortages in the aged care sector.
